Board Value

I give a board the rare pairing of an operator who has run offshore drilling operations and carried full P&L, and a banker who has led $3.9 billion in energy M&A and capital formation. I read a reserve report and a term sheet with equal fluency, identify risk where it actually sits and design the mitigation for it, and understand the line between oversight and management.

Biography

A career spanning the drill floor, the trading desk, and the board table.

Roger Lemons is a senior energy executive whose four decades span upstream exploration and production, energy investment banking, and midstream operations — at major international, regional, and private-equity-backed companies including Unocal, Jefferies, and Kayne Anderson–backed Winter Ridge Energy. He has closed corporate and asset transactions across upstream, midstream, and the capital markets, and led teams of up to 25 professionals.

He has served since 2018 as a Director of Hellman Properties, a family-held energy company, where he sits on the three-person board that sets management, operations, and policy — guiding the company's transition from a reactive operator into a strategy-driven enterprise now advancing its secondary-recovery, solar-generation, and carbon-capture-and-storage initiatives. He is currently Chief Executive Officer of Eureka Offshore Resources, an offshore-focused E&P company he founded.

His executive foundation runs deep in oversight of complex, capital-intensive, and highly regulated operations: he directed federal and state offshore drilling programs, championed a $30 million offshore waterflood expansion, ran a midstream business with $70 million in annual revenue and direct P&L accountability, and, as a Jefferies Managing Director, advised boards and executive teams on the sale of companies and assets across the Gulf of Mexico, California, and the Rockies. He complements this with formal governance training from the Wharton School's Boards That Lead: Corporate Governance That Builds Value.

His contribution as a director is grounded in that combination — the technical and operational judgment to test what management brings forward, and the capital-markets fluency to weigh strategy, transactions, and risk on behalf of shareholders.

Where I Contribute as a Director

Strategy & Capital Allocation

Four decades pressure-testing growth strategies, capital programs, and portfolio decisions — as an operator building value and as a banker advising boards on where capital earns its return.

Risk Oversight & Mitigation

Firsthand command of the risks that matter in energy and heavy industry — and the solutions that contain them: offshore and drilling safety, environmental and regulatory exposure, commodity price, and the discipline of hedging and financial structure.

M&A and Transactions

~$4 billion in closed acquisitions, divestitures, and financings, including recapitalizations and debt and equity offerings — the perspective a board needs when evaluating a deal.

Operational & Technical Oversight

Petroleum-engineering depth and record-setting offshore project experience, giving a board an independent read on operational performance, major-project execution, and management's technical claims.

Recognition & Volunteer Leadership

Award of Merit

Stanford Associates

Stanford Associates, the university's honorary organization for alumni volunteer service, presents its Award of Merit for significant acts of service. Roger was recognized for his leadership as President of the Stanford Club of Houston — for creative programming that raised the club's visibility and for convening the alumni community, including a panel with Stanford Trustee and former astronaut Ellen Ochoa.

As club president and event chair for Stanford Day in Houston, he assembled the steering committee that brought 500 area alumni together — the convening, consensus-building, and stewardship that carry directly into board service.

A Division I scholarship athlete at Stanford, he has drawn on the same team discipline throughout a four-decade career.
